Do You Have A Sense Of Urgency?

In my last post, I spoke about the need for business to invest as much time, effort and money in fostering quality and products and customer service as they do in advertising.

In every aspect of business, the winning leaders demonstrate a profound Bias For Action.

That means they have and foster a sense of urgency and are all about keeping pace with tomorrow, not fighting to preserve yesterday.

I’ve seen companies take months to make rather trivial decisions and I think speed is a factor in business success and the speed that a marketing idea makes it from impulse to implementation has a lot to do with that company’s bottom line.

One of Murphy’s Laws says that everything takes longer and costs more than originally projected and I’m afraid that’s true.

But I believe it’s the role of the leader of the business to push, push and push some more to keep the elapsed time between impulse and implementation to the shortest possible number of minutes.

I really believe in the time management concept that says work expands to fill the time available and that principle will kill you if you aren’t careful.

It’s the positive pressure of tight deadlines and high expectations that get and keep a business into high gear.

      The longer the deadline the more people procrastinate and the less work gets performed. The shorter the deadline the more effort is put forth and the greater the outcome.
