What the Sam Hill is an Information Marketer?

By: Bill Glazer on: October 1st, 2009 38 Comments

In case you’re wondering, Karen and I don’t indulge too often. We just don’t find we need to spend money frivolously and we have a very happy life with our 2-children and Chocolate Lab…Homer.

We do like to take a least one nice trip every year. We’ve practically traveled all over the world.

But one thing that I had wanted for some time is a Porsche and a couple of years ago I picked up my dream car, a brand new custom made Porsche Carrera 4S and while I was signing the paperwork, Rachel Day, who is the dealership’s Financial Services Advisor asked me a question that I hate getting…but I get it asked often.

She asked…

“What do you do?”

The problem is, this is NO easy answer to give people. I could say that I am a Publisher (I publish three newsletters), Business Consultant, Professional Speaker, Professional Copywriter, or a Business Coach.

But the real answer to that question is that I’m really an Information Marketer, which nobody outside our world understands because the term was made up (and the Industry largely invented) by Dan Kennedy.

So, I thought I’d talk to you in this post about Information Marketing and tell you a little bit about this wonderful profession that is leading so many of our Members to financial freedom.

First of all…what is Information Marketing? The best definition that I have ever heard is that you identify a responsive market with high interest in a particular group of topics and expertise, then package together information and services that matches that interest.

So, if you have some sort of core expertise that you think others can benefit from, there is no better time to jump into this highly profitable business because people are literally screaming for it.

Why? Because it is fueled by the ever-increasing pressure on people’s time to receive information in a convenient way and what we are discovering is that they are willing to pay just about anything for it.

For example, here’s just a partial list of just about every imaginable topic that you can provide information about:

  • Gardening
  • Real Estate
  • Yoga For Golfers
  • Investing In Tax Lien Certificates
  • Extreme Fitness
  • Persuasive Voice Skills For Business
  • How To Get Women To Approach You
  • How To Make Money On eBay
  • Better Sex
  • Teaching Parrots To Talk
  • Niche Marketing Systems For EVERY Category Of Business
  • Etc. etc. etc. etc.

Hopefully you get the idea.

There’s other reasons why this business is so attractive and why so many of our members are jumping into it.

First of all, it can be the perfect sideline to your existing business. In fact, the first 4-years that I was providing my BGS Marketing System, I ran it from the back room of my downtown retail store.

In addition, this business allows you to replace manual labor with multiplying and leveraging what you already know. If you prefer, it requires a very small amount of interaction with buyers, a small staff, and a small investment in inventory.

In fact, it can even be operated from your home and is often a great business to retire to. Oh, did I mention that you can make a lot of money which allows you to take the trips of your dreams, send your kids to the best colleges and even pay cash for a Porsche 911 if you chose to.

If this business sounds interesting to you, then I suggest you join me at this year’s Info Marketing Summit.

I still get a kick out of how much Frank Kern made selling those parakeet training videos. Totally crazy how niche you can get with this stuff.

    2. In other words, it’s The Business That Everyone Should Be In.

See you at the Info-Summit, Bill!

    4. I’m with you, Bill! When you invited me to compete in your Outrageous Advertising Book Contest, I jumped. I was the first to join the YouTube page for the contest, the first video submitted, and ranked #3 in the final entries. Also, if you search YouTube for “Outrageous Advertising Bill Glazer”, my video entry is top listed. If you google the same terms, I have videos on just about all of the first 8 pages of google for this promotion. I shot the video with my iPhone in three takes, entered take one in the contest and used the other two takes to drive traffic to the contest winner, embedded with the link to your YouTube Channel for the contest. Anybody can do this, and I’m happy to teach them. I haven’t recieved an official notification of contest results, but I’m anticipating a lot of attention at your Orlando event in January. Great timing, as my first book is coming out soon,

      Okay Bill

This is a great one and I have spent my life as an Optician untill I found Glazer Kennedy and information marketing.

Now when asked normally I don’t have an answer as to what I do! but my 12 year old son has a great answer, he turned to me one day in the car and said have you had a good day at work, I said yes actually Alex I have, that is good he replied, what happened?

I replied, and said that a business I was coaching today, has just had his buisiest month ever, Alex replied that is good Dad, particularly in these difficult times.

That made me smile, a couple of minutes later, he said Dad, that is like putting food on their table isn’t it, now that really made me smile, and sat very comfortably with me.

So Bill and Dan, a huge thankyou goes to you guys for helping me put food on my family’s table. Kindest Regards
      Mark

PS now when people ask me what I do, I reply with “I help put food on my clients table”

    6. Rezbi says:

Whenever someone asks me what I do I usually just tell them I write all the junk that comes through their letterbox… and bit more.

    7. Ha! you’ve got it easy Dan. Just be glad you don’t have to tell them you are a golf pro. And have every moron say “Hmmpfff, Must be nice to play golf all day”

    8. I like Tony Rubleski’s response. “I perform exorcisms. Taking the demons out of your business” or something like that at http://www.mindcapturegroup.com

I believe if I apply what I read from Dan Kennedy and Bill Glazier and the sample newsletter, the “Swipe” thingy…still learning…I know I can not only separate myself…but get the attention of folks who are looking for a consultant they have the knowledge, expertise, and that is faithful and there when they need me. I love what I do and I refused to give up on it…It’s time find a better way to market myself!

    12. Chesha Hale says:

    18. Becoming part of the Glazer Kennedy Insiders Circle has been such an eye opener! I’ve learned so much about marketing and just can’t get enough of it! I only joined a few months ago but already have things in the pipeline that i would never have had the confidence to do if I wasn’t a GKIC member. I don’t know why every entrepreneur isn’t part of GKIC. There is no other resource like it. Thanks Bill and Dan! Oh…and by the way…if you don’t get a copy of Outrageous Advertising that’s Outrageously Succesful…you must be dead….it’s a no brainer…get the book..

    20. Rob Anspach says:

anybody can become an information marketer…
and there are people so desperate to learn (to gain the edge, to eliminate the learning curve) that they will pay big bucks to buy your information…
… and you say the only thing you know how to do is create sand art?
well, I’m sure there are others that want to know how to do it… and they will seek you out to get you to teach them how to create sand art better, how to market sand art, and how to sell sand art for a profit.

    21. Bill and Dan, and everybody on the GKIC Team, THANK YOU for the great opportunities you’ve given me! Really fun.

    28. Rob Anspach says:

maybe they have a fear of success

    29. I was fearful of success for many years. Now success, not fear, motivates me just fine–and more effectively.

    30. Rob says:

      well said!

    31. I’ve made it a mission in my life to be there for people who are primarily motivated by the negative emotion of fear. Don’t get me wrong, I can use anybody’s fear to sell them whatever I want. I am a persuasionist, armed with all the tricks. That said, my heart promotes truths that transform and I want people to live extraordinary lives, just like me.

    37. Information marketing is great when you provide good quality content. Too many people want to become an information marketer using reused and low quality content. You may make a few dollars but you won’t have any long term wealth from your efforts.

    38. Vee C says:

I agree with you Jared . Information marketing is ultra-effective with good quality content otherwise it is a waist of time .
