Leaving Comments Can Make You Famous and Get You More Business

I know that many of you readers come here, read what you want, make use of the information you want and go about your day without ever leaving a comment.

One of the main benefits of a blog is the ability to start a conversation directly with me, Dan, Bill, Mara, Russell Brunson, Jim Palmer, Mike Capuzzi, Robert Skrob…or any of the other authors…and even the other readers.

So, if you have been a silent reader of this blog and want to know the benefits of leaving comments, let me give you some tips on why you should be doing it.

1. You’re Alerting The Author (and Dan & Bill) to Who You Are.

If you regularly leave comments on this blog, we will start to recognize your name. Don’t forget the  hundreds of small business owners and entrepreneurs who read it daily. They will start to recognize you also.

If you leave some really interesting comments, we may even ask you to “guest blog” some day.

2. You’re Helping to Build a Community.

This community is built around us small business owners and our views. Leaving comments is a way of showing that you care and want to share your opinion with others, including Dan and Bill. The comments can be a suggestion, feedback, appreciation or even constructive criticism. Just be sure they aren’t self promoting, spammy or abusive.

So, even if you are just stopping by, make that little effort and write a comment, even if it’s just a line.

3. You’re Getting What You Want.

You should leave a comment because that’s how Dan and Bill judge what their followers want. Also this is how you can get your questions answered rapidly.

4. You’re Adding Traffic to Your Site.

When you leave a comment, your name will link to your website. People click your link to see what other interesting stuff you have on your website. Obvious but true. You might get some business out of it.

5. You’re Connecting with other Entrepreneurs and Potential Clients That Also Read This Blog.

It’s well known that Dan and Bill are the nation’s most recognized experts on small business marketing. Doesn’t it make sense that someone looking for a service or product like yours may subscribe also?

A potential client could be searching for information on a particular subject in Google can easily stumble on one of these blog posts. Then they will see your insightful comments, determine you are an expert and give you a call.

I actually had one client find me through a blog comment (yes…a comment I made…not from being the author). I ended up billing this client more than $100,000 over the next year. The people who read the same blog post as I did, but didn’t leave a comment that day, didn’t get that business.

Blogging is not only about the author saying his/her piece, it is also about going out and joining the conversation where it is happening. It’s about reaching out to people and exposing yourself to new ideas.

There is no greater way to brand yourself as an expert than to leave insightful and regular comments on a blog like this one…you may even get some new business out of it.

So, let’s start today…everyone leave a comment and introduce yourself to me, Dan, Bill and to all the other blog readers and authors.

      We specialize in helping people make the most of the electronic information out there by creating their own search engines, or as Dan called it in a recent newsletter a “searchable electronic thingy”, but the content has to be there for people to find.

    7. With about 25,000 GKIC members and nearly 3,000 Facebook fans, I’m amazed how few actually get involved by even as simple an act as commenting on a blog post here.

      I urge everyone in my local GKIC Chicago and Northwest Suburbs chapter to regularly read and comment on this blog, and two of my chapter members are listed among the Top 4 Commentators.

      That makes me pleased — but it means that the other 60 or so who regularly attend our monthly meetings just keep ignoring my advice.

      As Dan always says, “95% of the people are wrong about everything.”

      Let’s see how many comments you provoke with this direct plea, Brian.

    17. Thanks for all the helpful advice over the years. I am an aspiring 37 year old Indie Musician, who has finally come to terms with the fact that it is what I was meant to do. I have recently decided to go all in and I will be releasing my first CD in the very near future.

      Also, I am still waiting for a reply to a question I’ve submitted to you guys via email awhile back so maybe I’ll ask it here.

      I just wanted to know if you guys thought your methods would be applicable to indie music promotion?

      Being a musician these days is pretty much the same as running a small business so I think I know your answer. I just wanted to hear it from you guys and then maybe have it expanded on.

      Great information (like I would ever find bad info here) on responding to blogs. My take on this may be a bit different. I own a Play N Trade Video Games franchise and seeing as how I am a brick and mortar business without any internet commerce yet, it seems that the benefit to someone in my situation would be Brand Awareness, which not only benefits me but all of the other 250 franchisees in the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico. I can’t wait until our corporate office updates our blog to be able to receive comments, until then we use our Facebook (Play N Trade Video Games) as sort of a blog, we at least can have feedback and respond to our fans.

      I have read may of Dan’s books and I’m trying to come up with more marketing ideas that will get a favorable response not only from the public but from our corporate office as well. Being in the video game industry they are pretty forward/out of the box thinkers so that shouldn’t be too hard…just gotta do it.

    32. I had the pleasure of meeting Dan many years ago here in California. I think it was the old Invention Convention or some such event. I’ve used his materials extensively over the years, for promo pieces for my former own event business, the Senior Expo, as well as for clients. This stuff really works. I’m glad to see he is revising the Magnetic Marketing for the next decade. The old one I have is from the 1996 or thereabouts. When will it be finished? Anyone know? In the meantime, keep that GKIC stuff coming, it works! And thanks.

      Commenting on blogs of the people you want to connect with is a great, non-threatening way to connect and let them get to know you.

      It’s like a trade show in a sense. buyers and sellers are all there, commingling… and when you have a good conversation with people and give helpful advice to both the poster and to the other commentators on a blog, you invite interaction and people reaching out to you.

      I myself have received several new business opportunities from relationships that originally started as on blog or on twitter open interactions….

      My only question is, does The Dan himself read the blog?

      I’d bet more on Bill then on Dan on this one… but surprise me! :) and Brian,- Your advice has been extremely eye-opening to me… Thank you!

Another strategy that creates goodwill with the author – and gives visibility to all who comment – is to then promote the blog post on Facebook and Twitter. For example, I just posted this on Twitter (I have 8800+ followers) and Facebook (2150 friends) so many of them will check out your post here as a result:

My name is Jim Spaulding and I own Cardiac Care & Safety, Inc. a safety training company. My biggest issue these days is turning my brain off long enough to get a good nights rest. I’m convinced that in the next 12 months, by implementing the principles and strategies I am learning here, I will take one of my programs from scratch to $50-70k a month residually. I am almost as excited about the journey I am going to take to get there as I am about reaching the destination…….almost.

Jan — Partner with other wedding service providers and start a “Wedding Planning Insider’s Circle.” Also, make sure to keep following your list as they go through life — wedding now, then honeymoon, buying first home, having kids, etc. — and keep providing them reviews and access to the services they will need all along the way. Once they know, like and trust you they will respond to your ongoing recommendations.

      Just one possible idea — digging into all the GKIC stuff and attending their events will give you many more. Good luck!

    47. Thanks for the encouragement. I have been busy inhaling GKIC materials for about 6 months now. I’ve had a few phenomenal successes, but I’m still plugging and waiting for my “Phenomenon”, which I know is coming in 2010. It’s now all about when to do what, not what to do. And I do try to slap myself when I think “but my business is different”, because I get that. But putting continuation programs that involve cash for retail is challenging (i.e., not just loyalty program – we do use that successfully) – would love to see that addressed.

      Interesting I didn’t know leaving comments could be so powerful. I rarely click on someone’s name to see what they are all about though (website, etc) but I can see how that may happen. Is posting an website address in the comments section spam? I know for example Tim Ferris does not allow that on his blog. Thanks.
