Time Tricks To Ward Off Time Vampires And Treat Yourself To More Wealth

This week we’ve been talking a lot about how to create wealth. One of the biggest keys to wealth (and more freedom) is better time management.

While we all know the obvious…that time is valuable… how to get a better grip on it and what to do about it isn’t always so obvious. In fact, often the time management tips given aren’t as directly related to wealth as one would hope.

During an interview with Dan Kennedy on Renegade Millionaire TV, Dan and I sat down in his home and talked about some of the time management ideas that are related to wealth…from how to deal with all of the interruptions coming to you via text, email, in person… to why the majority is wrong about time management… to what to do about the addictive pull of your cell phone…to a scripting tip that most people don’t do… to one of my personal favorites—the link between punctuality and integrity. There’s nothing worse than having a whole day or week go by and feel you haven’t accomplished much. Even worse is having a month, year or even several years pass only to feel you should be doing much better. So here are three additional time “tricks” from Dan’s newly released updated No B.S. Ruthless Time Management: Time Management for Entrepreneurs to help you eliminate that feeling once and for all:

Identify and Eliminate Time Vampires: Time vampires are things or mostly people that drain your time and energy in a way that is unproductive in relationship to their value. Dan describes them as, “Needy, thirsty, selfish, vicious creatures who, given an opportunity, will suck up all of your time and energy…”

Your first step to ridding yourself of time vampires is to recognize them. People that interrupt you, phone calls, social media, emails, texts or faxes, meetings, people that make everything seem urgent…are a few examples that you most likely recognize.

Identify all of your vampires and then make a plan for how you will cut them off.

For example, if you know you can’t resist the urge to visit social media sites, games or other addictive websites causing you to waste time when you should be getting work done, try software like Anti-Social or Cold Turkey. These software programs (and others like them) temporarily block websites that distract you allowing you to be more productive.

Or let’s say you identify a person who either can’t or won’t differentiate between an important issue and an unimportant issue. Dan says the solution to this vampire is “to interrupt the interrupter” and tell him/her that their issue must wait until the next day. Then he says, “Physically get away” (even if he’s in your office.)

Become a Self-Discipline Master: Observe the most successful people and you’ll see the importance of regimen, ritual, commitment and discipline. (Tweet this!) Set work hours, dedication to keeping rituals and an unwillingness to set those work plans aside for just about anything.

Dan says that he’s noticed that since he lost weight and is in better control of his physical condition that his income has gone up. He believes this is a reflection of “an unconscious preference on clients’ part to have confidence in, to trust, to give money to, to meet the fee demands without question of someone who appears to have self-esteem, self-control, and self-discipline.

If you want to get an edge on life, Dan says, “Self-discipline is the magic power that makes you virtually unstoppable.”

What rituals can you put in place? Are you disciplined or could you use some work in this area? Do you stick to your work plans or do you too easily put these aside when someone wants you to do something…be it get on a call, go to lunch, join in a meeting, answer a “quick question?”

Focus on Work that Directly Produces Wealth. One of the key factors to success is to always be looking for ways to invest less time in work and get more dollars in return. That means prioritizing the things which make you money and ignoring or delegating the things that don’t.

By now you are used to hearing Dan and GKIC talk about creating systems for things such as attracting prospects and converting them into paying clients/customers/patients automatically. Systems are created once and then continue to produce for you even when you are away.
